Rozalyn Chok of North Vancouver wins the Bosendorfer National Piano Concerto Competition in Toronto.

Toronto, ON: With an increase in entries, sponsor support and media coverage, Canada's 2007 Bösendorfer National Piano Concerto Competition was an unparalleled success!

Held May 11 - 13, 2007, at the University of Toronto, the biennial piano concerto competition is the brainchild of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra's Volunteer Committee. Originally conceived in 1986 to increase the Toronto Symphony Orchestra's profile among youth, the competition opened its doors to elite young pianists from across Canada, and in 2007 expanded from two to three days to accommodate the increased number of competitors. This year, 22 finalists prepared for two competition stages; a half-hour concert of solo works and a concerto round

The grand prize was awarded to 18-year-old Rozalyn Chok from Vancouver, British Columbia

Title sponsors Bösendorfer and Robert Lowrey's Piano Experts, Canada's premiere purveyor of high-end pianos and exclusive supplier of Bösendorfer for Eastern Canada, joined together to provide the coveted grand prize of $4000 cash; a solo performance with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to be played on a Bösendorfer Imperial Grand as part of their 2007.08 Season; a one year loan of a Bösendorfer piano; and a recital engagement in Vienna, Austria.

Beloved by pianists for its outstanding sound quality and superior hand-craftsmanship Bösendorfer has been considered the "Rolls Royce of grand pianos". Founded in Viennain 1828 by Ignaz Bosendorfer, Bösendorfer's earliest proponent was Franz Liszt and today many internationally acclaimed artists, including jazz legend Oscar Peterson and classical star André Previn, virtuosos Garrick Ohlsson and Andras Schiff, and singer songwriter Tori Amos, are among those who claim Bösendorfer as their piano of choice.
