Gianluca Luisi on Tour in Portland

His program includes:
Bach's French Suite No.5 in G major
Schubert's Wanderer Fantasy
A composition by 20th century Italian composer Goffredo Petrassi
Selections from Liszt's Annèes de Pelerinage, Second Year: Italy.

Luisi will also hold a master class at 12 noon on February 18 in St. Anne's Chapel, where he will coach Marylhurst piano performance majors. The public is welcome to attend the class at no charge.
The concert is sponsored by Marylhurst University, Michelle's Piano and Organ of Portland, All Classical FM KBPS Public Radio and the Institute of Italian Culture of San Francisco.

About the Artist

Gianluca Luisi has played at master classes held by internationally known musicians such as Lazar Berman, Jorge Demus, Alexander Longuquich, Paul Badura Skoda, Antonio Ballista and Rosalyn Tureck. He has taken part in several national and international piano competitions and won Italy's piano competition Cittí dell'Aquila and the Mozart prize (Italy). Luisi also has won the Genzano competition in Rome, the Cesenatico competition (Italy), the Jeunesse musicales competition (Italy), and the Torneo Internazionale di Musica (International Music Tournament) in Rome. Luisi has also won second place at the Casella International Competition in Naples, and in 2001 he won first prize in the J.S. Bach Piano International Competition in Saarbrucken, Germany, in which 54 pianists from 26 countries took part. He has recorded a number of CDs, including a CD produced by Sony with music by Bach, Schubert, Liszt and others. He has also released two CDs for the On Classical label, performing Chopin, Ciaikowsky and Bach.
