2009 International Piano Competition for Amateurs

International Piano Competition for Amateurs 2009

Bösendorfer presents the best piano amateur 2009: Dr. Thomas Yu, Toronto, Canada

From May 11th till 15th the Bösendorfer International Amateur Competition has been held at Bösendorfer Hall in Vienna. Wonderful concerts fascinated jury and the numerous visitors as well.

The Amateur Competition has been organized by Krassimira Jordan, professor at the Baylor University in Texas, strongly supported by Mr. Stefan Radschiner, Manager Artist Relation at Bösendorfer.

For participating in the competition the pianists had to be at least 30 years old and they must not draw their primary income from public piano performances or piano teaching. 25 amateurs from all of the world had been selected and invited for the preliminary round to Vienna. The jury consisted of Prof. Krassimira Jordan, Prof. Thomas Kreuzberger ( UNiversity of Music and Perfor, ming Arts in Vienna) and Prof. Franz Zettl.

Each of the six finalists then had to play a forty-five minute program. No blood and tears, but many a bead of sweat glittered in the spot light ...

At the end of the (final ) day Dr. Thomas Yu, periodontist from Toronto was the hero and winner of this year's Bösendorfer Amateur Competition.

Smiling winner and best of the bests: Dr. Thomas Yu. Prof. Krassimira Jordan is the first congratulator.
