Luu Duc Anh
Luu Duc Anh is one of the most brilliant pianists of his generation, currently among the most active classical music performers in Vietnam, performing numerous concerts each year and former laureate of numerous piano competitions in Vietnam, Australia, Belgium, Italy, France, Sweden.. In addition to his performing career, he has demonstrated a strong artistic vision through a wide range of musical projects both in Vietnam and internationally.
Duc Anh is widely acclaimed for his vast repertoire and extraordinary versatility. He commands the grand, technically demanding concertos—such as Brahms Nos. 1 & 2 and Rachmaninov Nos. 2 & 3—as well as Romantic masterpieces with virtuosic power and profound interpretation, while revealing an intimate, refined sensitivity in the Baroque and Viennese Classical repertoire. He is also a committed accompanist, having performed Schubert’s monumental song cycles Winterreise and Die schöne Müllerin, alongside lieder by Liszt, Schumann, Wolf, Fauré… Furthermore, he is a pioneer and advocate for modern and contemporary music, having introduced Vietnamese audiences to significant 20th and 21st century composers, including Louis Andriessen, John Adams, John Cage, Henry Cowell, George Crumb, Philip Glass, Paul Hindemith, Helmut Lachenmann, Leo Ornstein, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, and Frederic Rzewski through innovative concerts and projects.
Born in Hanoi, he began studying Piano with his father, Associate Professor, Artist of merit Luu Quang Minh, one of the leading teachers in Accordion and Jazz in Vietnam. He then pursued his studies at Vietnam National Academy of Music with Prof. Tran Thu Ha, Royal Conservatory of Liege, Belgium with Prof. Jean Schils and at Malmö Academy of Music with Prof. Hans Palsson. He also studied regularly with Johan Schmidt and Armen Babakhanian. Duc Anh has taken masterclasses with renowned professors and pianists including Dang Thai Son, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Tibor Szasz, Georg-Friedrich Schenck, Daniel Rivera…. He has also been awarded scholarships to participate in prestigious music festivals such as the Kirishima Festival in Japan and the Pablo Casals Festival in France.
He is among the few Vietnamese musicians to have appeared as a soloist with all major orchestras in Vietnam, including the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, Sun Symphony Orchestra, Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra, Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra, Vietnam National Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra... Internationally, he has performed with orchestras such as the London Chamber Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestre Symphonique du Conservatoire Royal de Liège, collaborating with distinguished conductors including Jonas Alber, Honna Tetsuji, Christopher Warren-Green, Maritt Strindlund, Olivier Ochanine, Bernhard Wulff, Patrick Baton, Nguyen Thieu Hoa, Tran Vuong Thach, and Nguyen Phu Son. He has appeared on numerous stages in Vietnam and abroad.
With huge success in his musician career as well as his contribution to the classical music field in Vietnam, he was appointed as an official Bösendorfer Artist in 2025 as well as working as artistic advisor for Bösendorfer Vietnam and Duc Tri Piano Boutique (exclusive Bösendorfer representative).
Besides an active concert schedule, he started teaching at the Piano Department, Vietnam National Academy of Music as a lecturer from 2018. Since then, many of his students have won top prizes at international and domestic competitions. Duc Anh has also served as juror at the various international competitions as well as giving masterclasses in many countries.
Since 2025, he has held the position of the Executive and Artistic Director of Vietnam International Piano Competition & Festival (VIPCF), one of the largest and most prestigious piano competitions in Vietnam and the region.

- Second prize (Chamber Music Category) and Special prize for the best Vietnamese ensemble at the 1st Vietnam International Music Competition for Violin & Chamber music.
NOTABLE ARTISTIC PROJECTS AS ARTISTIC DIRECTOR:
- Cathedral Concert Series (2017 – present): A Baroque concert series held at major cathedrals across Vietnam.
- 20th Century Music Concert Series (2021 – 2022): A monthly concert series in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Hanoi, featuring works by composers such as Steve Reich, John Adams, Terry Riley, Frederic Rzewski, George Crumb, John Cage, Philip Glass, Helmut Lachenmann, Paul Hindemith, and Louis Andriessen.
- The Art of the Piano (2023 – present): A monthly concert series in collaboration with composer Duong Thu, showcasing Vietnam’s emerging young piano talents.
- Evolution Concert Project (2020 – 2022): An educational performance project staged across multiple venues simultaneously, with each ensemble representing a different period of music history.
- Maestoso x Toong Classical Concert Series (2023 – present): A monthly concert series presenting a wide-ranging repertoire, from solo and vocal performances to chamber ensembles.
- Maestoso International Music Festival in Johor Bahru, Malaysia (2023): A collaboration with Ikita Malaysia, featuring the Maestoso Orchestra alongside young Asian artists.
- Vietnam International Piano Competition & Festival (VIPCF) (2025 – present): One of the largest and most prestigious piano competitions in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
