Schaghajegh Nosrati, born in Bochum in 1989, is regarded as an exceptionally versatile musician and established herself as a concert pianist at an early age, thanks in large part to her outstanding reputation as an interpreter of Bach. Her international breakthrough came with her success as a prizewinner at the 2014 Leipzig Bach Competition, but above all through her increasingly close musical collaboration with Sir András Schiff, who praises the “astonishing clarity, purity and maturity” of her Bach playing, as well as the profound musical understanding that underpins it.

In recent years, the pianist has performed at numerous prestigious venues, including the Klavier-Festival Ruhr, where she gave a solo recital at the Essen Philharmonic as a substitute for Daniel Barenboim; the Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels (Bozar); the Lucerne Festival; Tonhalle Zurich; Koerner Hall in Toronto; Vancouver Playhouse; the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.; Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona; the Berlin Philharmonie; Wigmore Hall in London; and Carnegie Hall in New York. During the 2022/23 season, Schaghajegh Nosrati was “Artist in Residence” at the Beethoven-Haus Bonn and appeared as a soloist with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn.

The pianist has accepted invitations from the Bochum Symphony Orchestra to perform at the Anneliese Brost Forum. At the Bach Montréal Festival, she performed with the festival orchestra under the direction of Reinhard Goebel, and at Bremen’s Glocke she also made a highly successful debut with the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto K. 467.

She made her debut at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin in 2019, stepping in for Radu Lupu, who was ill at the time. She was invited to return in 2022. On this occasion, the programme featured The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I by J. S. Bach, which Schaghajegh Nosrati had recorded the previous year in the same hall as part of a CD production

Another highlight of the pianist’s career to date was a joint tour in 2018 with Sir András Schiff and the Cappella Andrea Barca, featuring performances of J. S. Bach’s concertos for two pianos, among others at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Musikverein Vienna, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, and the KKL Lucerne.

In 2017, Schaghajegh Nosrati embarked on her first multi-week tour of China, where she gave acclaimed debut performances in Beijing and Shanghai, as well as in other major cities across the country.

Nine CDs featuring the pianist have been released to date. Her discography includes works for solo piano as well as piano concertos with orchestra by J. S. Bach, Joseph Haydn, Charles Valentin Alkan, and Anton Rubinstein. Her 2022 recording of J. S. Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I (label: CAvi) was awarded the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik in the fourth quarter of 2022. The same distinction was awarded to her first chamber music CD, Morgenwind, with the Joolaee Trio, in the first quarter of 2025. The album was released by GWK Records.

In addition to her career as a soloist, Schaghajegh Nosrati is a passionate chamber musician, not only in the classical field but also in the area of world music. In 2022, she founded the Joolaee Trio together with Misagh Joolaee and Sebastian Flaig, featuring kamancheh, piano, and percussion. With this ensemble, she has performed at venues and festivals including the Rudolstadt Festival, the Raderberg Concerts in Cologne, the Sendesaal in Bremen, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and the Heidelberg Spring Festival.

In 2026, she also founded her first chamber music festival, the Klosterhof Schubertiade, which takes place annually and is curated by Nosrati.

Alongside her concert career, Schaghajegh Nosrati became involved in teaching at an early stage. From 2015 to 2019, she was a lecturer at the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover. Since 2020, she has held a position as Sir András Schiff’s assistant at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin.
