Alexandra Silocea (Austria)
Captivating audiences through her emotional performances and her innovative approach, French-Romanian pianist Alexandra Silocea is dedicated to building new audiences in classical music through a multitude of cultural collaborations. She creates bridges between music and art with renowned cultural institutions and venues such as the National Gallery London, Heidi Horten Collection Vienna, Wien Museum, Belvedere, Belvedere 21, Mozart Haus, Gustav Mahler Society, Schönberg Center and many more, aiming to make music and art more accessible to all.
As an invited artist at the Enescu Festival, after performing with the "Svetlanov" Orchestra (2019) and the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin (2021) both times with conductor Vladimir Jurowski, 2023 marked the performance of Fazil Say's Piano Concerto "WATER" with the "G. Enescu" Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Conductor Alexandre Bloch. She is retuning for the fourth consecutive time to the 2025 edition with with her own concept, “Klimt meets Bösendorfer - Ver Sacrum by Alexandra Silocea” with four concerts having as invited guests, Patricia Nolz, Mezzo Soprano and Laëtitia Eïdo, actress/narrator.
August 2024, Alexandra has launched her piano fortissimo podcast, featuring esteemed international guests from all over the world.
Invited by the National Gallery London to curate and perform at the renowned 85th Myra Hess anniversary concert, she has returned to the HEIDI HORTEN COLLECTION in Vienna for the third time this year with another concept curated for the LIGHT SOUND SENSES exhibition. Two Austrian premieres makred this performance with works by composers Nimrod Borenstein and Martin Romberg, fragrances by Yogesh Parfum and dance and choreography with dancer Chazz Del-Logen Cooks, who's recent highlight was performing at the Paris Olympic Games Ceremony with Lady Gaga.
Published in 2023, the book "In Memoriam Radu Lupu" billingual in Romanian and English features cherished memories of Radu Lupu from Alexandra Silocea and other renowned artists, including Nelson Goerner, Murray Perahia, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Lawrence Foster and others.
She has pioneered a new format called "Klimt meets Bösendorfer - The Tree of Life" blending solo piano music, Gustav Klimt's songs, poetry, and a unique limited edition Bösendorfer grand piano. This concept premiered at the National Gallery in Vienna (Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien - KHM) and has since been showcased at the London Craft Week "Meisterstrasse in Residence" Opening Night 2023 and two times at the Heidi Horten Collection in Vienna, featuring esteemed invited artists such as mezzosoprano Kate Lindsey and Ruxandra Donose and actors such as Vikky Stone, Nicole Beutler, Till Firit and Peter Windhofer. The concept has seen such a success that it is now available in German, English, French and Romanian.
2025 marks also the collaboration with contemporary composers. A new CD album was released with works by Norwegian composer Martin Romberg on LAWO.
Chilean composer Luis Saglie has written “The Kookaburra” Piano Concerto for Alexandra Silocea, which appeared on the Universal Edition and was premiered with conductor Alejandra Urrutia and Orquesta Filarmónica de Santiago in Chile’s acclaimed Teatro Municipal.
A Bösendorfer artist for nearly 25 years, Alexandra has been invited to festivals such as the Enescu, Ravinia, Dvorak, Brighton, Rydale, Mahler Festival, her concerts being live broadcast by the BBC Radio 3, Radio France, ORF, Mezzo, Marquee TV and has performed in venues such as the Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus (both in recital and concerto appearances), Carnegie Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Bridgewater Hall and Wigmore Hall, the latest for a four hands appearance with her mentor, Elisabeth Leonskaja, at the 70th birthday-concert of the acclaimed pianist.
She performs with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Montreal Chamber Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Gävle Symphony Orchestra, Kymi Sinfonietta, Oulu Symphony, Meininger Hofkapelle, Bucharest Radio National and Radio Chamber Orchestra, Enescu Philharmonic etc. with conductors such as Delyana Lazarova, Vladimir Jurowski, Jakub Hrůša, Leo McFall, Alexandre Bloch, Roderick Cox, Philippe Bach, Pablo Gonzalez, Gerard Korsten, Christian Badea.
December 2020, amidst the global pandemic, Alexandra made headlines when she stepped in with just five days' notice to perform with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Vladimir Jurowski at the Royal Festival Hall in London. This performance marked the European premiere of Elena Kats-Chernin's Piano Concerto No. 3 "Lebewohl" and was streamed worldwide on Marquee TV.
Mentored by Giuseppe Ravì from Respiro e Movimento®, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Maria Jõao Pires and for many years by the late Radu Lupu, Alexandra is a piano professor at the “Friedrich Gulda School of Music” Conservatory in Vienna.
Three CDs have appeared on Avie Records so far, all to critical acclaim : Prokofiev Piano Sonatas 1-5, "Sound Waves" and a chamber music recording with works by Enescu, Prokofiev and Shostakovich.
Alexandra Silocea is honored to receive the Patronage of the Duchess of Rutland.
